Erick Thomas

Erick has grown within Harlen Simple. The group pushes him to grow and improve as much as he pushes the group to continue evolving. His gritty throwback approach can sometimes seem like he was picked up somewhere in the 1930's and dropped into today's time with a couple of stops along the way. Erick picked up the guitar one day while bored at college and he hasn't let it go since. "I went to the library at school and printed at least 500 sheets of instructions and other shit off the internet. After about a month of figuring out how the hell to play a G chord, I started going thru my CD collection, a lot of Hendrix, Clapton, Sublime, Phish, (Pink) Floyd; shit like that. I figured if they were the best, in my eyes, I might as well learn what they were playing," said Thomas.

A year after he picked up the instrument, Erick started bumming around open mics. The Truth Hurts Band (Ken Morrow's former project) used to pull him on stage to back up the lead guitarist at the time. The band would play anything they could manage to teach Erick within five minutes. Two months later, Erick and childhood friend, Travis Williams, formed Harlen Simple.

Since that time, Erick's journeys have led him through numerous side projects but none have never had enough to hold a candle to what he has with the band he created.

From not being able to play bar chords, to now establishing himself as an up and coming talent as a musician's musician, Erick Thomas is a force that will continue to turn heads in every room he plays in.
